Following the various upheavals of the Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War, Espahbod's figures and objects became more amorphous, highlighting the decline of the identity of his subjects. His later works juxtaposea wild dream-like world with more familiar elements. Sometimes lines are blurred, others they are crisply executed. A combination of the two adds to the feeling of discordancy, as in the present work, where a small child is staring into a chaotic abyss.

This painting is from the collection of Ms. Manijeh Miremadi (Nasseri). A hugely influential figure in the Iranian cultural scene, Ms. Miremadi is a painter and the Editorial Director of Tavoos Art Magazine and also the Director of Iranian Art Publishing.
