surface dirt and dust; heavy varnish; under UV, areas of inpainting visible throughout, most notably in upper left and lower center, largest 2 x 3 1/2 inches, with smaller noteable areas in beard and scarf; craquelure throughout; approx. 2" diameter repair in upper left quadrant, pin head size nick to upper right quadrant beneath signature and along left edge near sitter's shoulder; approx. 1" repair along upper right edge (see images)
