PROVENANCE:
By descent through the family of the sitters

Thomas Frost (1885-1954) and his sister Jessica were from a family with artisitic associations: their cousin Walter (1857-1930) was a well known figure in the art trade, and did much to increase the fortunes of the family firm, Frost and Reed; it is also likely that they were related to the figure painter William Edward Frost R.A. (1810-1877).
