Lot 254: ALEXANDER ANTONOWITSCH RIZZONI (RUSSIAN 1836-1902) ITALIAN PEASANTS

signed and dated 1889 l.r. in Russian, oil on canvas 35 by 27.5 cm.; 13 3/4 by 10 3/4 in. Rizzoni was born in Riga and educated in Saint Petersburg. Following his graduation, he travelled extensively in Germany and Holland as well as Mediterranean countries until he settled definitively in Rome in 1865. This work is very typical of his Italian mature period, and reflects all the influences he has undergone in Italy. He is well represented in museums in Russia.
