Item Overview

Description

Alex Davies born 1970 Dni Sianna (Six Months) Bronze Signed and numbered 1 from an edition of 5 188cm.; 74ins high by 78cm.; 30½ins wide by 76cm.; 30ins deep After studying at Farnham and Plymouth Art Schools Alex became involved with an art foundry that shared the studios where he worked before spending some time at the Frink School and then spent a few months working at Bronze Age in South Africa. A spell as foundry manager with Morris Singer with responsibility for many of the UK's monumental bronzes helped prepare him to set up his own foundry from where he has worked on a number of high profile castings (The Bulls at Blagdon Hall) and restorations (The Green Horse Windsor Great Park). Dni Sianna (Six months) - the literal translation of this is 'hay day' as the sculptural form is derived from the hay sheaves used to dry hay in the Polish Tatra mountains. The hay bundles are piled on to a cross shaped armature to dry whereupon the wind and elements shape and evolve the stack into an abstract sculptural form. The six months refers to the length of time that the stack was left to develop before the surface was rendered using the shapes and forms present to define the final casting.
