The Ballroom in the Doge's Palace, Venice: set design for a performance at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, of the tragic ballet Otello by Salvatore Viganò (1769-1821)
signed 'Alessandro Sanquirico invento: et dipinse Regio Teatro della Scala in Milano' and with inscription 'Grande Sala da Ballo nel Palazzo Ducale di Venezia. Nel Ballo tragico. Otello, ossia Il Moro di Venezia' (on the mount), and with further inscription describing the performance during Carnival 1818 (on the back of the mount)
