Notes

In addition to scenes of yachts on the Neva, streets and courtyards, Alexander Isaakovich Rusakov is known for his townscapes depicting workers at their everyday activities. His bold colours and forms show the influence of the great European masters of this time such as Matisse, Cezanne, and Marke. The varied colour palette is reminiscent of the European post-Impressionists, while the subject matter is more typical to Russian landscapes. Street Workers was executed in 1933-34.
