Notes

Latin American Art

"Argentina is going through a very particular cultural moment. The seed sown decades ago and constantly nurtured by a few has germinated...Let culture be welcome once again, since it is what we have to leave to our youngsters, who...shall be the custodians of this valuable testimony"

Natalio Jorge Povarché, Xul Solar - Visciones y revelaciones, Buenos Aires, 2005, p. 186.

The rich diversity of Latin American paintings and sculpture in the collection of Mr and Mrs NC present an opportunity for a new generation of collector to appreciate what Natalio Jorge Povarché described as the 'germination' of a particular 'cultural moment' in Latin American Art. From the bold visual language of Alejandro Xul Solar's portrait Grafia (lot 315) through to the dynamic modernity expressed in the brushed steel sculpture of Enio Iommi (lot 317), Mr and Mrs NC have been custodians of a specifically Latin American cultural 'testimony'. They shared the vision that this testimony, through carefully selected pictures and sculpture, must speak of a bold, timeless and above all beautiful aesthetic.

Sold with a certificate of authentication from Natalio Jorge Povarché, Director de Galerìa Rubbers, Buenos Aires, 29 July 1988.
