Notes

Son and pupil of Jan Bernard de Vriendt, he also studied with Van Leyge at Anvers. After travelling around Europe and the Orient, he settled in Anvers. He adopted a style reminiscent of the old masters. He was the Director of the Academy there and decorated The Church of Christ there. He was the president of the Academic Council in Anvers in 1895. He was conferred the awards of Commandeur de L'ordre de Léopold, de l'ordre du mérite de Bavière, officier de l'ordre de'Orange Nassau, and Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Museums in Brussels, Munich, Anvers and Liège have conserved his works.
