Notes

Around 1900 Bartholomé developed both the decorative and sensual elements of his work in a series of nudes which recall his friend Edgar Degas's paintings of women bathing. Bartholomé worked on two versions of Au bord de l'eau which differ mainly in the drapery and hair. Both types were produced in marble and bronze.
