Notes

Alan Lydiat Durst specialised in sculpture carved from wood, stone and ivory. He taught wood carving at the Royal College of Art from 1925 to 1948. He worked on a number of ecclesiastical commisions. The present charming figure of St Christopher is typical of Durst's work, both in the linear details and the compositional suggestion of the confines of the block.
