Item Overview

Description

A Flemish School, oil on canvas painting after the Dutch Old Masters painting by Baroque painter Jacob van Oost the Younger (1639 – 1713, Bruges), depicting St Macarius of Ghent Giving Aid to the Plague Victims, (painted in 1676).

The scene depicts St. Macarius delivering the Eucharist to awaiting people while in the foreground a man grieves over the figures of deceased children and adults, while Putti (or Cherubs) watch the scene from the heavens.

No visible signature on the face but there is illegible writing on the stretcher bars; 18th - early 19th c.; Canvas: 15.75"h x 12.75"w, Housed in an ornate carved and gessoed frame measuring: 24"h x 21"w x 4.25"d.

PROVENANCE: From the amassed lifetime collection of the Living Estate of elegant world-traveled European gentlewoman.

Some small areas of in painting evident, canvas does exhibit some small pin holes and wear but structurally sound and not brittle. Frame with some areas of repair to the edges and corners.

PAYMENT
Payment must be paid in full before property is released. After the auction bidders will receive an invoice via email detailing winning lots and charges at which time payment is due. Payment accepted includes: Check, Cash, Visa, Amex, Disc, MasterCard and Paypal. The invoice will have a live link to PayPal. Checks will need to clear before EMWAA will release the property. In cases of non-payment, the Auctioneer's right to void the sale does not relieve the bidder from their obligation to pay both seller's and buyer's premium and any damages incurred from loss of sale. Paid items left beyond 45 days become gallery property and will be sold.

BUYER'S PREMIUM
A 23% Buyer's premium will be in affect, in addition to the hammer or purchase price. All bidders will be subject to a 7% Florida State sales tax unless they have a have a valid Florida State Resale Certificate on file with E. M. Wallace Auctions prior to bidding.
