Lot 360: After Chen Dancheng (Chinese b. 1919)

"Red Lotus Blossoms and Bird", wood block on paper heightened with color. The colophon states that this painting was done mid-day on a mid-summers day. Image 2'10-3/4"T x 1'6-1/4"W. He is well known for flower and insect paintings of an impressionistic style with striking lines and colors. Dancheng was the winner of the Golden Chueh awarded by the Chinese Painting Association. He was the former Chairman of the Fine Arts Department , College of Chinese Culture and a member of the Chinese Academy where he served as professor.
