Waigiou. 1818. Phalanger de Waigiou signed and dated 'Taunay J n e fecit. 1818' (lower right), inscribed as title and inscribed 'Voyage de l'Uranie, MamifŠre, Pl. no.1.' (upper left) and 'approv‚ par mtn s les naturalistes.' (lower left) pen and ink and watercolour on paper, watermark IHS (Montgolfier) 14 1/8 x 10 3/16in. (35.9 x 25.8cm.) and drawings of a phalanger's skull (Timor) by Huet and of kangaroo and opussum skulls (Port Jackson) 4 (4) ENGRAVED Atlas Zoologique, pls.7, 8 (Phalanger), 4 (Opossum) and 10 (Kangaroo). EXHIBITION Paris, 1962, no.335. NOTES The Phalanger 'perfectly captured' (Quoy) by Taunay on Waigiou, Rawak, Papuan Islands, December 1818.
