Notes

This engraving is the work of Adolphe Jean-Baptiste Bayot after artist Carl Nebel's General Scott's Entrance into Mexico City. By September of 1847, disastrous battle losses, including Chapultepec, had persuaded the Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna that his cause was lost, and he surrendered Mexico City. The subject of this work is the triumphant march of the US army into the National plaza on September 14th.
