Notes

THE PROPERTY OF A PRIVATE COLLECTOR

The signature indicates that this miniature was copied after a portrait by the Bavarian artist Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804-1877), who was not only famous as a painter but also as a successful entrepreneur in the field of lithography. In 1834 he established his own publishing company, which still exists today. He later also worked as a photographer and had among his models King Louis II of Bavaria, Otto von Bismarck and Empress Sissi.
