A Wood Writing Box (Suzuribako) and matching Writing Table (Bundai)
(20th century), signed Kanzan [Shimomura Kanzan (1873-1930)]
The writing box and writing table each assembled of wood and painted with a scene of Ama no Hashidate, Itsukushima, and Miyajima, the interior of the writing box fitted with a rounded-rectangular ink stone and a silver moon water dropper and painted in gold and ink on the bottom with a torii gate; two writing brushes, paper pricker and paper knife; rims silver
Writing box 12 x 6¾ x 1¼in. (31.4 x 17.3 x 3.2cm.); writing table 22¼ x 12 3/8 x 3 7/8in. (56.6 x 31.4 x 9.5cm.)
Each with wood storage boxes signed Taikan [Yokoyama Taikan] dai .... and sealed Shokodo; the box for the table titled Kanzan hitsu Ama no Hashidate (Ama no Hashidate painted by Kanzan), the box for the writing box titled Kanzan hitsu . . . .; and with letter by Yokoyama Taikan (3)
