Description

Wax background inscribed R.C Lucas, 1851 and to the top right indistinctly T.Garnier, Dean of W.., mounted in giltwood and composition frame -- 133/4in. (35cm.) high NOTES Richard Cockle Lucas was born in Salisbury 1800 and died in Chilworth, near Winchester in 1883. He trained under Richard Westmacott at the Royal Academy Schools in 1828 and became a well known modeller and received the patronage of Lord Palmerston among other notables, and also portrayed numerous images of the Bishop of Salisbury and the Dean of Winchester.
