Description

Landscape format on buff colored paper showing staff officers with cuff bands, surrounded by dragoons and their horses, with a pennant stuck in the ground on left side. Signed "M. Orange" at the bottom right corner. Damaged gold wood and glass frame. Original label on back "Siccatif de Courtrai". Dimensions: 22.5 x 28.5 cm.
Maurice Orange was a French artist, student of Gér"me and Flameng, and a friend of Detaille's. A prizewinner of the Salon des artistes Francais (1867-1914), his work shows his talents as a colorist and at rendering natural light.
