Marked Fabergé with the Imperial warrant, with the workmaster's mark of Anders Nevalainen, St Petersburg, circa 1890, scratched inventory number 5121
Oblong, reeded overall, the hinged cover with gold-mounted cabochon colourless hardstone thumb-piece, one end fitted with a hinged vesta compartment and tinder cord, the interior of the cover with the engraved inscription in Russian '1st Steeplechase 'Kotling' 9 May 1899', marked inside cover and base
5 1/8 in. (13.1 cm.) long
