Notes

Lucas Achtschellinck studied under Pieter van den Borcht and was elected a member of the Guild in Brussels in 1657. He specialised in landscape and his work is sometimes confused with that of Jacques d'Arthois. Much of the staffage in his landscapes was provided by artists such as Pieter Bout and Gonzales Coques.
