height 5 3/4 in. (14.5cm)

probably modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler, with a Turkish man taking a pinch of snuff from a box offered by a seated lady, a soldier wearing a blue uniform and holding an axe standing to attention behind them. Some chips and repairs, soldier figure, Turkish man's arm and neck re-affixed.

NOTE

The exact meaning of this group, which has also been called 'The Polish Executioner' remains unclear as the various titles are probably recent appelations. An example of this group was in the Collection of Jörg Nelte, sold at Sotheby's, London, June 17, 1997, lot 153.
