modelled by Simon Feilner, as a shepherd embracing a shepherdess, each holding with one hand onto a puce and gilt-edged rococo candlestick terminating with a gilt-edged foliate sconce and drip-tray, with leafy branches issuing from the base of each rocaille, the shepherd wearing a green jacket, puce breeches and a satchel to his left side, his companion wearing a straw hat, puce-edged bodice, yellow skirt and gilt-edged apron with puce flowers, a goat, sheep and dog at their feet, the base modelled with elaborate scrollwork edged in puce and gilding and painted with grass patches and applied with leaves and flowers

Notes

Other examples of this candlestick group - known as the Kußleuchter or "Kiss Candlestick" - are in the Pauls Collection, Basel (published by P.W. Meister, Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts, vol.I, pp.40f.) and illustrated by P. Stahl, Höchster Porzellan 1746-1796, p.171. The model was so popular in the 18th century that Feilner later recreated it at the Fürstenberg manufactory.
