Item Overview

Description

height 9 1/8 in. (23.1cm)

(vases Duplessis) each painted with small bird panels reserved on the pink ground between applied stalk handles with colorful flowerhead terminals, interlaced L's mark in blue enamel. Handles restored.

NOTE

A garniture of vases of this form, with gilt flower sprigs and colored applied flowers on a white ground is illustrated by Préaud and d'Albis, La Porcelaine de Vincennes, p. 131, no. 63. It is highly likely that the pink ground and bird panels were added to the present vases in the 19th century to make them more saleable, the white ground and somewhat sparse decoration of early Vincennes pieces being considered somewhat unfashionable.
