Description

A NORDIC REVIVAL STYLE POLYCHROME PAINTED CARVED PINE CABINET, DESIGNED BY GERHARD MUNTHE (NORWEGIAN 1849-1929), LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the arched and reticulated cornice depicting stylized mythic beasts amongst scrolling vines flanking a circular wheel form pendant above a conforming silvered steel hinged door centering a recessed panel depicting a Nordic warrior in various shades of brown historic dress with sword riding across a bridge amidst pale blue water and jagged ice blue painted icebergs in the distance flanked by rectangular panels with strapwork and disc decoration over an arched opening trimmed in scrolling details enclosed by pierced sides of buckled crosses on a conforming breakfront cabinet with reeded edge above a recessed paneled door having colorfully painted relief carving of a bearded Norseman trumpeting the arrival of paired warriors on horseback with pikes and shields centered by block and rectangle panels bordered in molded trim within sides of incised Nordic/Celtic symbols over an arched base rail ending in shaped block feet.
