Notes

Christie’s charges a premium to the buyer on the Hammer Price of each lot sold at the following rates: 29.75% of the Hammer Price of each lot up to and including €5,000, plus 23.8% of the Hammer Price between €5,001 and €400,000, plus 14.28% of any amount in excess of €400,000. The artist received his initial training from his father, Balthazar de Moucheron, a secretary and diplomatic agent of the Duke of Holstein in Moscow. It was in the Amsterdam studio of Jan Asselijn, that Frederik was introduced to the popular Italianate style. In 1655, at the age of 22, he moved to Paris where he worked alongside Dirck Helmbreeker, before a sojourn to Antwerp. Back in Amsterdam Frederik married Mariecke de Jouderville, daughter of Isaac de Jouderville. They had 11 children. Frederik left behind an oeuvre that is characteristic of the second group of Dutch Italianates. He collaborated often with staffage painters like Adriaen van de Velde, Johannes Lingelbach and Jan van Huchtenburg.
