BY NICOLAS MARGUERIT (FL. 1763-1790), MARKED, PARIS, WITH THE SECOND CHARGE AND DISCHARGE MARKS OF HENRY CLAVEL 1782-89, THE MINIATURE BY JEAN PETITOT (SWISS, 1607-1691)
circular box, the lid set with an oval enamel miniature of King Louis XIV (1638-1715) under glass, the cover and base engine-turned with concentric reeding scattered with pellets, the sides with similarly scatterd horizontal reeding, the sablé borders chased with a laurel and berry border
2¾ in. (70 mm.) diam.

The interior of the lid is engraved,'Louis 14 t h A Legacy left by Simon Earl Harcourt Master of the Horse To the Queen, delivered to her by His Brother William now Earl Harcourt on the 30 t h of April 1809.'
