Description

A Louis XV style gilt-bronze mounted mahogany commode after Charles Cressent height 36 in. by width 5ft. 5 in. by depth 26 in. (91.4cm. by 165.1cm. by 66cm.) Charles Cressent (1685-1768), was ebeniste to the Regent Philippe d'Orleans. The present lot is based upon the original which was sold at the Hamilton Palace sale in 1882 aand is now at Waddesdon Manot. This original commode is illustrated, Sir Anthony Blunt, General Editor, The James A. De Rothschild Collection at Waddeson Manor, Vol 1, 1974, p. 201.
