Provenance

Antonie Freiin Tänzl von Tratzberg (1885-1954) lady-in-waiting to Hildegard Princess of Bavaria (1881-1948) and member of the household of her sister, Gundelinde Princess of Bavaria (1891-1983), later married to Johann Georg Graf von Preysing-Lichtenegg-Moos ; the fan: Margarete Fürstin von Thurn und Taxis (1870-1955) presented to Amalie Freiin Tänzl von Tratzberg, thence by descent. Fürstin Margarete was a very active horse back rider and used to ride daily up to the age of 80. It was than where she would have used leather fans like this to protect her from the sun and wind but also for rides in one of the cabriolet cars for which in 1909 a special large car park was build close to the Regensburg palace.
