A LARGE SAMSON FAMILLE-VERTE JARDINIÈRE

Paris, 19th century

Painted in the
famille-verte tradition with colorful enamels of blue, yellow, aubergine, green, iron red and gilt with four large tapering rectangular 'lotus pond' panels, three with birds, one with a dragonfly, and divided by smaller panels of birds amidst prunus sprays and bordered by a phoenix-headed sinuous dragon to each side and a descending bat above, a wide floral band encircling the foot, and two cell bands divided by a raised bowstring band encircle the upper body below the slightly incurving unglazed rim and white-glazed interior, all supported on a mostly unglazed wide rounded wedge-shaped foot, the flat unglazed base with a small iron-red Samson mark.

Condition Report

Generally, in excellent overall condition. A few minor iron-spots and air bubble pinpricks but unobtrusive.
