A HÖCHST FIGURE OF CYNTHIO, MODELLED BY JOHANN CHRISTOPH LUDWIG VON LÜCKE (1703-1780), CIRCA 1752
standing in duelling pose against a tree stump, with a black and gilt bordered tricorn hat and a matt red coat over a yellow waistcoat with fringed flaps, on a waisted square blue edged base, underside with old inventory number '241'
21.5cm high, some repairs and chips
Cynthio (otherwise known as Lelio) and Isabella are one of the foremost pairs of lovers from the Commedia del'Arte. He is usually portrayed wearing the lastest fashion, of aristocratic demeanour, although he is sometimes seen as faintly ridiculous.
