By Sumin, with indistinct workmaster's mark, possibly 'AA' for Andrei Adler, St Petersburg, 1908-1917
Shaped oblong, the pencil with gold mount, the cover enamelled in translucent blue over a wavy guilloché ground with leaf-chased mount and suspension loop, in the original silk and velvet lined wood case stamped in Cyrillic 'A.I. Sumin S[t]. P[eters]B[urg]. Nevski 60', marked on pencil mount and suspension loop
