A GOLD AND ENAMEL RAILWAY JETON, WORKMASTER ERIK KOLLIN, ST PETERSBURG, CIRCA 1901 the front enamelled in emerald green over sunburst engine turning, and applied with a winged caduceus and white enamel oval with Cyrillic abbreviation S.P.V. Railway , the reverse engraved with numerous signatures and applied with enamel plaque dated 1894-1901, 56 standard height including loop: 55mm

Notes

Caduceus is a short staff entwined by two serpents surmounted by wings. In Roman iconography it was often depicted being carried in the left hand of Mercury, a god of trade, and because of this association caduceus also became recognised as a symbol of commerce and negotiation.
