Notes

Issued from a family of artists, Alphonse Eugène Guilloux was the son of Benjamin Guilloux, an ornamental sculptor from Rouen, and brother of Benjamin Charles and Albert Gaston Guilloux. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he was formed by the celebrated sculptors Dumont and Falguière and showed regularly at the Salons and International Exhibitions of the era. One of his best known works is the dramatic Orphée expirrant of which a marble version is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen.
