A FRANÇOIS LINKE FRENCH LOUIS XV-STYLE KINGWOOD, MARQUETRY AND GILT BRONZE BUREAU À CYLINDRE AFTER JEAN-FRANÇOIS OEBEN François Linke (French, 1855-1946), Paris, France, circa 1900 After Jean-Francois Oeben (German, 1721-1763) Marks: F. Linke 40 x 31 x 18 inches (101.6 x 78.7 x 45.7 cm) The small Bureau à Cylindre with rectangular marquetry decorated top with gilt bronze gallery, over a sliding tambour front enclosing a fitted interior with six drawers and a slide inset with gilt-tooled tan leather writing surface, over a frieze drawer flanked to each side by two short drawers raised on cabriolet legs terminating in gilt bronze sabots. The drawers, sides and back with inlaid floral marquetry decoration. Based on a Bureau à cylindre by the German born cabinetmaker Jean-François Oeben working in Paris as Ébeniste du Roi from the 1740s until his death in 1763, the original was formerly in the Collection of Comte Boni de Castellane and now is in the collection of the Musée Nissim de Camondo in Paris. This particular model was referenced as Index No 1626 in François Linke's Day Books.
