A FINE WHITE MANDARIN HAT WITH RED TASSELS AND CORAL BALL, China, late Qing dynasty - The coral indicating a civil or military mandarin of the second rank; the hat comes with a fine fitting leather case - Property of the former German counselor Dr. Joachim Schulze (1880-1954), who was living in China from 1907 to 1940, his stays being only shortly interrupted by trips to the Phillippines and Java. He did his military service in Qingdao and lived mostly in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Harbin and Changsha - Slight stains, the case showing traces of age 62x41x39 cm
