A FAMILLE-VERTE BISCUIT FIGURE OF A MALE IMMORTAL AND CHILD

Qing Dynasty

The standing enameled biscuit figure wearing elegant, green-ground floral robes and holding a child in his folded right arm, his left hand held at his waist, all supported on waisted rectangular base with shaped panels on a cell ground to the sides, and two small figures at the feet of the immortal.


12 1/2in (31.8cm) high, overall

Condition Report

Large figure: Various losses and repairs to extremities, including the hat, wings, and tiara; (real) left sleeve and hand with losses, (real) right hand with restored fingers; repair to the tray supporting the small child; small child with extremity repairs and missing right hand; re-stuck supporting tenon to underside of figure; other minor imperfections.


Two small standing figures: One with head with restoration and re-stuck, both figures with glaze polish at one side and tenons to underside re-stuck. One possibly a replacement.


Base: Some kiln firing cracks to the underside that extend as fine cracks

up the sides to the supporting shelf.

The dignitary depicted in the group with boys possibly represents the God of Fortune (福星 Fuxing). He is often seen with a boy, or a scroll, sometimes surrounded by children such as the present lot. See a related
