MARK OF JOHANNES SCHIOTLING, AMSTERDAM, 1787
Vase shape and on spreading foot with laurel and bead knopped stem and foot, the body fluted and with rosette and panel decorated shoulder, with laurel decorated handle and beaded rim, the foot stamped with an initial, marked underneath, the foot marked with later Dutch tax mark and French import mark

Notes

VAT rate of 5% is payable on hammer price and at 17.5% on the buyer's premium.
The distinctive borders on the present ewer compare to other examples of Schiotling work in the 1790s. For example a kettle and stand and a pair of casters which were exhibited Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum, Johannes Schiotling een Amsterdamse Zilversmid (1730-1799), 1976, no. 57 and 60 respectively.
