Notes

Wooden niblicks were designed for the purpose of playing out of ruts and tracks, or from roads. This particular niblick was also a forerunner of the brassie, as it has a full brass sole plate to protect it from the stones of the road. Niblicks were exceedingly difficult to play with due to their small, spooned heads, but they were nonetheless effective implements when the ball was struck sweetly.
