By Viggo Jarl, Circa 1904 Standing naked, clutching his fists, on a circular base, stamped to the top V.Jarl ; the bronze has a light green patina 64 in. (163 cm.) high NOTES Born in Copenhague in 1879, Viggo Hieronimus J”rgensen, better known as Viggo Jarl (d. 1965) was a pupil of S‚goffin. He won the celebrated Grand Prix de Rome and exhibited at the Paris Salon des Artistes Fran‡ais. He was awarded a mention honorable in 1905. Many of his works are now in the Anneberg Collections as well as in Copenhague's Statens Museums For Kunst, such as a version of the present work. It is illustrated in Billedhuggeren, Viggo Jarl, 1879-1959, Host & Sons Forlag, Kobenhavn, 1959, Planche 3.
