A. CIPRIANI ITALIAN ACTIVE LATE 19TH / EARLY 20TH CENTURY ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL signed: A FO CIPRIANI FIRENZE and inscribed ORIGINALE white marble 107cm., 42 1/8 in.

This charming figure exquisitely demonstrates the Italian verismo school. Picking a subject from everyday life – a young girl on her way to school – Cipriani carefully details all the intricacies of curls, ruffles and lace. Attention is given to the carving of every surface, from the puckered seams of her coat, through textured stockings down to the laces of her low-heeled shoes. In good, untouched condition, the sculpture retains its original 'skin'.
