Description

Circa 1750 Modelled in the role of 'The Fine Lady' in Garrick's 'Lethe', standing, half-turned to the left, her spaniel tucked beneath her right arm, in lace cap, jacket with lace facings and cuffs, her bodice incised with hatched ornament and with ample crinoline, on a square base with diaper and foliage ornament (some chipping to lace cap, minute chip to toe and a small chip to back of base, small crack to base at front right) 93/4 in. (25 cm.) high NOTES This model is based on an engraving by Charles Mosley, published in 1750, based on an earlier drawing by Thomas Worlidge. For other examples, see Yvonne Hackenbroch, op. cit.
