A BLUE AND WHITE 'CARP AND DRAGONS' DISH

Chenghua mark, Kangxi

Finely painted in various shades of cobalt blue with a carp leaping from breaking waves and issuing an incense cloud with a simply-penciled dragon within a central circular panel on a white ground and with two fully realized scaly four-clawed dragons each chasing a flaming pearl amidst fire scrolls and reserved on a deep blue cloud band that extends across the cavetto to just below the white everted rim, the reverse with four equally-spaced beribboned objects and the base with an encircled, thickly-brushed six-character
Chenghua mark.


10 1/2in (26.7cm) diam

Condition Report

Generally, in excellent overall condition. Some small air bubble pinpricks and minute nibbles to the rim but unobtrusive. A few minor kiln adhesions to the foot ring but again unobtrusive. Recommended.
