Lot 1637: 1948 Lynn Buckham Original Illustration Artworks (2)

Two highly stylish period works in watercolor on board by artist Lynn Buckham (1918-1982), best known for her stunningly realistic figural illustrations for romance stories, published in books and various periodicals, notably Saturday Evening Post. Buckham's work captures the optimistic spirit of post-WWII America. Her characters, typically pastiches of famous movie stars or popular models, consist largely of perfectly featured young women and classically handsome men with chiseled good looks. The pairing consists of an 16" x 15" work on larger board depicting such a couple, inscribed on the margin "Crosswinds" with publication details and date 11-17-1948. The second image, 8-1/2" x 13-1/2", features a young woman gazing quizzically through a farmhouse window. Both are signed and in fine condition with wear to edges of board only, not affecting images.
