Description

Original Otto H. Rothenburgh (1893-1992) Charleston Watercolor, painted in 1935. The watercolor features the south side corner of East Bay and Tradd Streets in Charleston back when 75 East Bay was a shop. Professionally framed in gilt frame and matted, under glass. The piece measures approx. 20 1/2 x 26 x 3/4" in frame and image measures approx. 16 x 21 1/2"(HxWxD). The frame measures approx.3/ 4" wide. Weight 6 pds. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate. Otto H. Rothenburgh (1893-1992). Rothenburgh was born in Philadelphia, and was a prolific genre artist and scenery painter. During his career, he produced more than four-hundred paintings including work that he did in Mexico in 1934 when he moved to Taxco. He was associated with Joseph Urban, eminent stage designer, and with Salvadore Dali. He also painted scenery for the Metropolitan Opera and the Ziegfield Follies. He exhibited at the Society of Independent Artists and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
