Item Overview

Description

1930s American Illustrator Original Artwork "The Organ Grinder" Oil on Canvas by William Meade Prince

A strongly painted and attractively presented illustration work by William Meade Prince (1893-1951).  Prince produced comic art and contributed to several leading magazines, including Collier's. He headed the Art Department at the University of North Carolina during WWII. The unidentified work is probably a magazine illustration. The appealing subject is an Italian organ grinder with characteristic neckerchief and dancing monkey.  Painted in grisaille tones on cream ground. Fine condition with complementary period frame, signed lower right. 24" x 19".
