Biography

Floating World Auctions, previously known as JWPPA, has expertise in Japanese fine art, specifically 20th century woodblock prints by Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga artists. Floating world is the leading online auction seller of woodblock prints, with sales exceeding over $3 million to date.

The owners and founders, Bill and Roberta Stein, started their gallery from the spare bedroom of their home in 1987. They started collecting when they received their first woodblock print as a wedding gift and now run an international operation with over 8,000 square feet of office and exhibition space in Chicago.

Their catalog includes works by Azechi, Hasui, Hamaguchi, Harunobu, Hashimoto, Hiroaki, Hiroshige, Hokusai, Inagaki, Itow, Kyokata, Kogan, Koitsu, Koizumi, Koson, Kotondo, Kunisada, Kuniyoshi, Maki, Mori, Munakata, Nakayama, Onchi, Saito, Sekino, Shinshui, Shiro, Shoson, Shunsen, Teraoka, Toraji, Toyokuni III, Tsunetomi, Watanabe, Yamaguchi, Yoshida and many more, in addition to western woodblock artists with Japanese training or work background.
