Auktionshaus Stahl

Invaluable Seller since 2003

The auction house Stahl is one of the leading auction houses in Hamburg. The company was set up in 1978 by Hans Stahl in the heart of the city of Hamburg, it has been a family-run business for more than 25 years, and today exists in the second generation.

With the opening of the manor house Toestorf in Angeln in Schleswig Holstein in 1992, fine furniture, old master paintings and high-quality decorative arts from the 18th and 19th century were sold outside Hamburg. Today the manor house Toestorf serves as a viewing location and consignments are always welcome

After 40 years in the auction business, in 2005 Hans Stahl delegated the business to his daughter Christiana Stahl-Kerle, a publicly ordered and attested auctioneer, who carries on the tradition with art historic knowledge and commercial skill.

The success of the business made larger premises necessary and in March 2006 the company moved into a villa in the Graumannsweg 54, built in 1860 in the Tudor style, which offers ideal conditions for the auction business and is close to the Alster and the city.

A wide range of objects is on display, including paintings, select furniture, porcelain and objects d’art, furthermore high quality art can be purchased in the day to day sale.

The auction house Stahl holds six auctions per year with the main focus on:

paintings: old masters, impressionist and modern, northern German and Hamburg artists, marine subjects
old master and modern prints
porcelain (including Meissen)
furniture
decorative arts (including silver, glass, bronze, sculpture, clocks, faience)
jewellery
art nouveau and 20th century design

Each auction features a fully illustrated, academically researched printed catalogue, as well as an online version, which is available in English. Our competence also includes drawing up written valuations and expertises, i.e. for inheritance, estates or insurances. In our capacity as ‚regular valuer of the courts of justice and the chamber of commerce Hamburg‘, and as a licensed auctioneer we hold the decisive competence to draw up written valuations of works of art and expert’s reports taking into consideration the current market situation, i.e. valuations, inheritance, estates, collection liquidations, as well as insurance.

We look forward to offering you advice and information on works of art at any time and without obligation and are pleased to give verbal valuations. If, for any reason, you are not able to visit us in person, you are welcome to send photographs with additional information such as size, condition and signatures. In case of larger collections and high quality consignments we are happy to visit you at home.

Our Opening Hours: Monday to Friday open throughout 10am to 6pm.

We are glad to assist you with any further questions you may have – please arrange an appointment for a valuation or consultation
