The dominant motif is the Holy Mount Athos. The sketched linoleum-plate shows a woodscape. Lower right, the artist had already begun with the cutting. The hand-bound book by the artist with the title ‘Athos = Kartographierung’ contains diary-like texts and is illustrated with xeroxed linocuts. Reinold Zwerger (1924-2009) was born in Kirchberg am Wechsel, Lower Austria. He studied at the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalten in Vienna and worked as a graphic and industrial designer. A journey leads him in 1956 to Mount Athos for the first time. Many other trips followed. The eleven linocuts of this set, thereof nine in black and white and two in colors, are all signed in pencil. Partly they are additionally dated, numbered and inscribed in pencil. The sketched linoleum-plate is signed with felt pen. The book is hand-bound in a half-cloth cover with marbled paper. Age-related the sheets are with minor to more wear. The overall condition is good. The sheets measure from 49.9 x 70.4 to 62.8 x 77 cm.
