Oil on canvas, laid down on board Germany, 1930/40s Maryan Žurek (1899-1944) - German painter and sculptor Signed lower left, ‘M. Žurek’ Painted courtly figural scene on the reverse Dimensions: 60.3 x 74.5 cm Open staggered landscape in Worpswede. Landscape paintings by Maryan Žurek have sold for up to €5,000 in the international auction market The present oil painting by Maryan Žurek (1899-1944) depicts an atmospheric view of an open Northern German landscape with a slightly cloudy sky. It most likely displays a Worpswede landscape near by the Weyerberg at the Teufelsmoor, where the artist lived at the end of his life. The canvas has been laid down on board. The reverse shows a courtly figural scene with a fairytale character, most likely painted by Maryan Žurek, too. Žurek’ lower left and shows some wear due to age. The board is slightly bent. The paint surface shows framing marks, scattered tiny stains and a light discoloration. Inspection under UV light reveals some minor areas of retouching. The upper edge on the reverse bears an indistinct inscription. The board shows little losses to the edges. The paint surface is somewhat scratched and stained. The board is 60.3 x 74.5 cm in size.
